Ben walked back to the cave naked, despite Alrik’s ongoing demands that he cover his ass. If he happened to put an extra wiggle in his step a time or two it was purely coincidental. Once inside the cave, he turned to confront the man who drove him crazy. “Do you really think I’d fuck Yuri?”

Alrik paused in the process of retrieving the phone from his backpack. “Why would I think that?”

“Why else would you order me to stay away from him?” Ben pulled on his last clean pair of jeans.

Alrik stepped forward and stopped Ben from zipping up. “It has nothing to do with fucking. Yuri has a big mouth, and I don’t want him filling your head with shit from my past.”

Ben wished he had the fortitude to knock Alrik’s hand away from his dick, but he was apparently a whore. “I’ve heard Yuri say maybe three sentences since he’s been here, so I don’t expect him to sidle up and start spewing your secrets all over me.”

“Did you talk to Nero yet?” Seger asked from the mouth of the cave.

Alrik landed a gentle kiss on Ben’s lips as he removed his hand from Ben’s cock. “No,” he called back. “I was just about to call him.” He kissed Ben again. “Stay close to the cave and keep your ears open.”

Ben looked around the empty space. “Can I at least go outside?”

“I know you’re hoping Shadow will find you again, but we don’t know enough about him yet.” Alrik glanced at the phone in his hand. “If he’s one of us, we’ll find a way to help him, okay?”

Ben shook his head. “But I want to help him, no matter what he is.”

“Let me talk to Nero first,” Alrik said as he turned and headed out of the cave.

Seger walked in and began to look around. “There’s nothing in here.”

Ben zipped his jeans. “Until Alrik and I got here, the wolves used this room for sleeping, but they’ve moved farther back in the cave.” He gestured towards the connecting tunnels before reaching for a T-shirt. “Evidently they trust the shifters a hell of a lot more than they do us.”

Ben sat on the dirt floor and dug through his bag looking for a clean pair of socks while Seger continued to watch him. “Why’re you staring at me?”

“Just trying to figure it out.”

“Figure what out?” Ben reached for his boots.

“Nothing.”

When Seger started to walk away, Ben jumped to his feet and went after him. “I know you’re big enough to crush me like a beer can, but you can’t say something like that and walk away.”

Seger spun around and narrowed his eyes. “I see the way Alrik looks at you. Like I said, I’m just trying to figure it out.” He put his huge hand on Ben’s shoulder. “Word to the wise, don’t ever come after me again.”

Ben took a step back. “Alrik said you were the gentle one. Guess he was wrong.”

“Yeah, and he told me he wasn’t capable of loving someone.
